Congratulations again on your acceptance to Samuel Merritt University’s online MSN program! From now until the start of school, Samuel Merritt University strongly encourages all new graduate students to complete these items on the New Online MSN Student Checklist.

You will have the opportunity to review these checklist items with your Samuel Merritt University Student Support Manager during your first onboarding appointment. The date and time of your onboarding appointment was included in the same email that included the link to this checklist. New Online MSN Student Checklist:

  • Meet with your Samuel Merritt University Support Manager for new student onboarding and discuss the following topics:
    • Your progress on this onboarding checklist
    • Details and requirements for new student orientation
    • Your courses for the first term and how to register
    • Additional information about the curriculum
    • How academic advising works at Samuel Merritt University
    • Expectations for participation in the program
    • Next steps to starting at Samuel Merritt University
  • Check with your enrollment representative about the following topics:
    • Submitting your tuition deposit to secure your seat in the program
    • Directions for submitting health requirements, CPR certification, drug screening, background check, HealthStream requirements and health insurance waiver
    • Where to submit official transcripts
    • Information about transfer credit
  • Mark your calendar for the first day of registration for Summer 2021. You will discuss your courses and how to register during your new student on-boarding appointment.

  • Mark your calendar our virtual tours. We will send you a link as the tour date approaches.
    • August 2 – August 13
  • Mark your calendar for the first day of orientation. It is a mandatory and fully online two-week orientation course. You do not need to come to campus.
    • August 16 – August 27
  • Mark your calendar for the first day of online classes. See the full academic calendar for start and end dates of each term
    • September 7, 2021
  • Watch the online experience video and the online classroom video to learn more about our program.
  • Finalize your financial aid and payment plan. Check with your Samuel Merritt University enrollment representative if you have questions about the process.
  • Practice logging into Samuel Merritt University Total Access website and check that you can access your Samuel Merritt University email and Canvas learning management system.
  • Check that you can see the SMURF Records and Finance application from the Samuel Merritt University Total Access website. Review sections where you will be able to (in the future) pay tuition, view financial aid, and access bookstore information.
  • To understand more about the Canvas online learning environment that will be used in your courses, watch these two videos on Samuel Merritt University Online Experience and Samuel Merritt University Online Classroom.
  • Review list of textbooks your student support manager provides during onboarding.
  • Purchase your textbooks through Samuel Merritt University’s online bookstore or any other book seller. You are not required to buy books from Samuel Merritt University’s online bookstore.
  • Review the curriculum your student support manager provided in your onboarding confirmation email.
  • Secure the technology requirements:
    • Hardware and software requirements
    • Web camera
    • Headset
    • Stethoscope – FNP only. FNP faculty recommend a Littmann Cardiology II or one that is good for assessing heart sounds and breath sounds
    • Review available technology discounts
    • Review additional well-tested apps for desktop and mobile that can help you with your studies
    • MacBook Users- You are required to purchase Microsoft Office for your MacBook. You can purchase Microsoft Office: Mac through the Samuel Merritt University online bookstore at a discounted price.
  • Secure your student ID badge by following these steps:
    • Fill out the ID badge application at badging services
      • Take a photo following these directions:
      • All pictures should be taken with a digital camera using a flash OR with a cell phone camera that produces pictures of thirteen (13) megapixel quality or better.
      • The background should be white.
      • Do not take photos in a dark room.
    • Send your ID Badge Application and photo to badging@samuelmerritt.edu and studentsupportSMU@crm.samuelmerritt.edu. The subject line of the email should read New FNP Student Badge. Your badge will be mailed to you. A signature will be required upon delivery.
  • FNP: Review requirements for future semesters:
    • N671L: oto-ophthalmoscope kit, stethoscope, reflex hammer, and a turning fork (high frequency 500 to 1000hz). These items can be ordered at a student discount through Steele Supply Co with whom Samuel Merritt University has had a long-standing partnership. There is a special-order form that will be sent to you closer to your labs.
    • N675L: Suture Kit called “Sim Suture” can be obtained on internet through Sim-Vivio.
    • Clinicals: Lab Coat will be ordered through the Samuel Merritt University bookstore. It will have the Samuel Merritt University logo on it with the student’s name. There is a special-order form that will go out in the semester before your clinicals.
